Interest Method Guide
What is simple interest?
Interest is paid only on the original principal. Most standard time deposits in Korea use this method, which keeps the structure simple and easy to review.
What is monthly compounding?
Interest is added back into the balance and can earn more interest. Over longer terms, it can produce a larger maturity value than simple interest, and it appears in some savings-oriented products.
What is interest income tax?
This is the tax charged on interest income. In many standard cases, 14% interest income tax plus 1.4% local tax equals 15.4% withheld at source. Tax-exempt products or qualified accounts may reduce or remove this tax.
